With the popularity of social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, there are so many ways to get inspired when it comes to your home’s interior design. Using the internet can be a great way to find new trends in flooring and new ways to use it. However, it is important to be careful not to fall for any trends that may not actually be practical—or, worse off, could be problematic. Sometimes certain flooring trends fire across social media, and you may be tempted to emulate what’s out there when you see them posted.
Now, more than ever, people are paying attention to their surroundings and looking for ways to update their homes and new trends to try. But, some trends are better left untouched. When it comes to real life application some trends are not always as promising as they appear. For example, flat weaves are a great choice for area rugs. However, when it comes to wall-to-wall flat weave; this is a major no-no. Flat weaves are not able to be seamed therefore cannot be made wall-to-wall and are better left to the world of area rugs. 
A trendy carpet material, Sisal carpet is a natural carpet fiber extracted from the Agave plant’s long spiny leaves. It’s similar to jute in that it is quite rough and uncomfortable underfoot. It may look nice at first however if it gets wet, it can stain. Due to its complex texture, stains are difficult to remove. Although sisal carpets are generally stain-resistant, once a spill has occurred it can be hard if not impossible to clean completely. Sisal will also absorb air humidity and release it leading to the flooring contracting or expanding.
Thick wool carpeting on steps. Wool carpeting can be a beautiful, natural choice for many areas of the home. However, does not work well on stairs. While it can look great at first and from afar on social media, it poses several aesthetic and practical problems you won’t want to deal with in your own home. For example, these types of wool carpet are made with loops and made to stay flat. So, when rolling over the edge of each stair, there will be gaps in between the loops exposing the carpet backing beneath. Rather than having the beautiful plush wool you were envisioning, there will be backing exposed on each stair edge; and nobody wants that! It is also not very durable for stairs.
There has also been a recent surge of posts featuring patterned carpet on staircases. While this may work for some patterns, there are many patterns to avoid. For example, an animal print or similar pattern that must be cut in a certain way to make it run continuously down the staircase can create a lot of carpet waste and isn’t very practical. This can not only increase pricing but it isn’t great for the environment either.
