Coffee Stains: How Do You Remove Them from Your Carpet?

One of the worst carpet accidents you can experience is when you spill a cup of coffee onto your carpet, especially if that carpet is a light color. Instead of panicking, keep reading and you'll know exactly what to do  to clean up the stain. You'll be able to act quickly and, hopefully, prevent the coffee from doing any real damage to your carpet.

First, use a dry, white towel and blot up the spilled coffee. Do not scrub, as this could actually work the coffee further into your carpet. If you soak up enough coffee to completely drench your towel, switch to a new one so you aren't spreading more coffee around.

Next, concoct a mixture of water, vinegar, and a non-bleach detergent. Spritz this mixture onto the coffee stain, dab it up, and then rinse the area with warm water. Repeat until you are able to soak up most of the coffee from your carpet. If you're lucky, you'll be able to pick most of it up without evidence of the spill occurring. If you still see a slight shade difference between the spill area and the surrounding carpet, you might want to have that area professionally treated.
